Apr. 15th, 2005 11:41 pmSleep still crazy. Getting crazier, with lack of sleep not bothering me.
I managed to push myself into sleep around 3.30, then awake with a start at 7.30.
But I felt fine all day, except for the Damocles-like feeling that sleep deprivation should be dropping me like a rock at any minute.
Headed over to Tom and Julia's (
casadelatoolia), bearing croissants and strawberry jam, for breakfasting. I was just really in the mood for croissants and strawberry jam, so I dropped into the nice Summer Hill bakery ("The Happy Loaf") on the way over.
We powered further along in watching more Smallville, getting to about four episodes left.
Had quite a nice chat (albeit online, which is never the same as in person) with Kane (
malinari86), which I enjoyed. Left me feeling even more up than before. Thanks, man!
Headed to work for the afternoon. So awfully quiet.
Booooored.
Read, helped people (what people there were, that is) with stuff, hit Reload on LJ every five minutes for more than an hour.
Funny thing is, I was the least bored of the staff tonight. Penny (not
freeformchick) was out of there like a rocket as soon as it hit closing time.
I got a somewhat frantic call from Owen (
illykai), asking for directions to the current site of UNSW Gamers night.
Now, I haven't been along to a UNSW Gamers night in well more than a year. When I last did, I recall it having on recently moved, with the possibility of another move on the cards.
I gave Owen two different possibilities, neither of which seemed to work out.
Then he called James (
sim_james), who apparently gave him much the same information, to no avail.
Poor Owen.
For my part, I headed to Sutekh Pizza 'n' Games. I found it a little lack-lustre this evening, though I did play a decent couple of games of Kill Doctor Lucky.
Now I'm home.
Tomorrow:
truthandclaw, then Kim's (
luinilwen) birthday.
"People talking, really smiling
A man playing guitar
Singing for us all
Will you help him change the world?
Can you dig it? (yes, I can)
And I’ve been waiting such a long time
For today"

Date: 2005-04-15 03:15 pm (UTC)It's not that weird that you could sleep half that... all depends on the length of your sleep cycles, and stuff. If your cycle is four or two hours long (probably four), then you can feel much more rested sleeping four than you would, say, six. I find this is the case for me, anyway.
You might find that you can live with four hours of sleep indefinitely.
People can train themselves to sleep 20 minutes every four hours for indefinite amounts of time with no apparent ill effects (other than too much spare time, and also, if someone wakes you up, or you miss a sleep, you get way tired, way fast, and can't sleep properly until your next four hour break is on. etc). Maybe you are just special and only need four hours, eh?
eh?
Gives you more time to learn quantum physics and design computing mechanisms.

Date: 2005-04-16 12:02 am (UTC)(well, the only version of Saturday in The Park is by Chicago, but I am willing to accept the existence of others I guess)
very very good

Date: 2005-04-16 12:19 am (UTC)One of the big reasons I want a turntable back in action is to spin up my copy of Tango in the night.
Off the top of my head, I only actually know this one song as Chicago. I was only dimly aware that it was by them. I think they're one of many bands whose music I've heard and liked, but not associated with a band.
Glad you like it, though. :D

Date: 2005-04-16 02:35 pm (UTC)I never liked The Dance all that much, I'm afraid; it mostly reminded me how I'd rather be listening to the original versions of most of the songs.

Date: 2005-04-17 11:07 am (UTC)Not in question. Otherwise I wouldn't say I wanted to.
Well, tomorrow I start work at 8.30 and finish at 7. Phew.
So, Tuesday's looking good.
Re: Turning the tables :)
Date: 2005-04-16 11:04 pm (UTC)Some of the tracks are pretty cool, fairly subtle re-examinations of the original work. Coming back to things around a decade later is a big move, so the vibe's changed a bit.
A few of the songs sit a bit better in their new versions, I agree. I think I like the newer iteration of Bleed to love her better than the first. Big Love strikes as a little grander than its original, if I recall right.
It's been a while since I've listened to it, but it just didn't resonate as a musical whole like the original albums. That's my complaint.
Re: Turning the tables :)
Date: 2005-04-17 05:05 am (UTC)I too like the new version of Bleed to Love Her, and also Sweet Girl. The version of Rhiannon is interesting, although I have personal issues with that song and have to be in the right mood to listen to it without cringing :)
