I do believe in Benjis, I do, I do!

As it's been more than two weeks since I actually updated, I thought I'd post before I wink out of existance. :)
After work, two Fridays past, I went to Heli, Georgina (
shenavyr) and Edwina's (
eddles) place to watch Flowers in the attic, a shabby, mid-eighties film version of the tragic V.C. Andrews novel series of the same name.
It's godawful.
At one point the movie was ^so engaging^ that our viewing devolved into discussion of the Climb checks involved in the feat that one of the characters was performing.
I think all were disappointed that the only really interesting part of the book (the elder brother and sister entering into an incestuous relationship, which links to other themes I can't be arsed talking about) was actually excluded from the film version.
Plus, they actually got a vaguely satisfying resolution, which they don't in the books. It wasn't a very interesting resolution, though.
Two Saturdays past, I attended Jayce (
tanked_girl) and Heaph's (
heapha) birthday bash. I ate far too much fried food (mostly calamari. Mmm, calamari) and got to talk to plenty of people I don't see enough.
Once asked myself, got in on the action and helped spread the question: "With whom - of the people here - would you refuse to sleep, for $50,000?"
Some answers were interesting, others not so.
Mine seemed to surprise no-one who heard it.
Celebrated my sister, Jenn's (
astridthemighty) 16th birthday. She stayed home from school and we had lunch. She seemed very pleased with the presents I proffered (Fantastic four for the PS2, and rhyming dictionary).
Played in Truth and claw, Saturday of last week. Pretty good session. Internal conflict, surprising news for some (though some of us had already guessed at it) and bane-stomping action. Managed to escape my first direct battle unscathed, while healing others.
Good times.
Didn't make it to Shaun's (
cute_n_fluffy) birthday party (for which I have already expressed my apologies). Instead, I spent the evening with a certain charming lady.
Had a sit-down, "where are we going?/what do we want/" talk, instead of just running a session of Worlds apart : Super Solutions. After getting lots of solid feedback, I threw out the idea of putting Super Solutions on hiatus and kicking off a "spin-off series".
The idea was well-received.
I asked for ideas of where people would like to go with that. Russia was suggested.
I liked the idea, so I told them Russia's big secret.
They loved it. It was totally worth it, just to see everyone's faces when I told them.
So now the new spin-off will be set in Russia, with them playing Russian aristocrats.
I'm still thinking about the name.
Currently I'm leaning toward Worlds apart : thicker than water.
Went and saw Layer cake with Christa. I quite liked the film. Though it's considerably less funny and light-hearted than Lock, stock and two smoking barrels or Snatch, it's also rather deeper, much of the time. The character motivations are richer, the double-dealings more canny.
Manned the Re-O Day stall for Sutekh. Not a bad day. We managed ten new members, which is quite good for midyear.
As I was already at uni, I hijacked the loveliest tutor on campus and had lunch with her. Reclining on a lawn in the sunshine was grand. When she went off to teach a two o' clock, I trotted back to the Loggia and...
Played about half of a game of Gloom, before Owen (
illykai) and Justin (
justinant) got distracted. We then became embroiled in a discussion about fellatio and women's various preferences thereupon. Owen's tale sounded painful.
This all led into talk of whether the "Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen" school of thought worked. I concluded - based upon Justin as a primary case study - that it does, upon a certain group of women who like that kind of business, for whatever reasons of previous emotional damage.
I recommended against attempted uptake of the stratagem to those looking to not hate themselves.
Went to TAFE. Loathed it.
Worked (several times within the period covered, really). Sat in on the senior staff meeting, Thursday morning, as I'd finished my packing early.
Very interesting. Policy discussion actually intrigued me more than I'd thought it would. Maybe I am in the wrong course. Sigh.
Not certain yet, but it looks like I may be getting a promotion soon.
Attended Pizza and Games, Friday night. If I played something, I don't remember it.
Spoke to Norton (
eganra) about his new character, for Thicker than water.
After P&G, went back to Marc's (
talecrafter) to talk to him about his character.
Ended up not leaving until one.
Yesterday, I slept nine and a half hours, so I didn't rise until 11.
This made getting to Rhi's by 11.30...difficult.
After showering, dressing and acquiring tasty pastries, I got there around 12.15.
This, needless to say, made us unable to get to UNSW Gamers' "Board games and baked goods day" by noon.
It made little difference, however, as there were only five people there by the time we arrived.
Played a rousing game of Corsari, which is a cute little game that seems rather like it could be easily played with normal cards.
Played a game of Crimson skies with James (
sim_james). It's an interesting game, that. Took us quite a while, as we needed to nut out exactly how everything worked.
I really liked the maneuver cards and tiles.
I've come to the firm conclusion that I'm a big fan of dynamics which involve people secretly deciding what they're doing, then revealing such simultaneously.
I like it in this, I like it in Game of thrones, hell, I even liked it in Street fighter (it's the only good thing about the system).
It's interesting when you pin down a preference.
Dropped James home, then headed to mum's (
gytha_ogg), to rustle up Jenn and her.
Off we drove to the Seymour centre, to see Stuff happens, which is basically a dramatisation of the Bush War on terror lunacy.
Very good.
Haunting in places.
The guy playing Bush had his mannerisms and voice far too accurate for comfort.
Reese Muldoon's rendition of Tony Blair was likewise quite evocative.
Overall, a really fine cast (which is something for a cast of 16, each of whom has about equal stage time).
Good show.
Tonight: Worlds apart character generation and campaign sketching.
