the_benj: (Tripe on tap)
1. I am in the audience. There is some kind of lecture (something like a TED Talk). The speaker is a cavalryman-moustached mash-up version of Bradley Whitford and Louis CK.
His speech dances through a variety of topics, from conspiratorial nano-psychology to arhythmic lyricism, culminating in a version of the moral story about the elephant and the rope. At the end, he points, out into the darkness of the audience, directly at me and says "YOU are the rope!"

2. The world is ruled by superhumans, who run a corporation called Global. Whether this is public knowledge or a secret, I don't know, but my friends and I certainly knew. We were plotting a daring raid on Global's main Chicago headquarters, the Basingstoke Tower. We're going to sneak into some kind of corporate soirée in the building's penthouse functional hall and ... attack them with our own super powers? Or something? The details of our assault are pretty sketchy. There were 8 of us, but I can only really remember 2 apart from myself: [livejournal.com profile] haju (who had some ill-defined control over green objects) and Luke (who was the only one of us without powers).
We snuck in without a hitch and I unleash my telekinetic power on Global's Vice President, Duncan Livingstone (played by Rip Torn), levitating him and tossing him off the grand balcony. He returns to the room through a glowing purple portal, straightening his tie.
Our master stroke foiled, we give up on attacking, saying (truthfully? I don't know) that it was a gesture to demonstrate our power and usefulness, that we're there to get in on the action and join them.
Livingstone rebuffs us, saying that The Plan only needs the 8 powers they have; he rattles off a precise list, one of which is "High-speed cars", another simply "Volume". He says they have no need for any other powers, only "Personees". The company has some kind of "Personation" process (which wasn't one of their powers) that extracts a person's inner essence and forms a healthy, youthful clone of them, stripped of defects. The original is left alive, but with a hazy memory, kind of absent-minded, kind of Denethor style. It becomes apparent that the President of Global (a moustachioed John Hurt) is a victim (benefactor?) of this process and that Global's head of security (Gareth) is his "Person".
A chase scene ensues, up and down the hundreds of long, wooden ladders that web through the space that seems to make up all of the space in the building that isn't that top function room.
I have a brief interlude, talking to Luke, who's considering working for them, because they'd Personate him and he'd be young again (?) and not need glasses. I point out to him that the Person wouldn't be him, just a clone of him, that he'd be left a shell. I remind him of why he got involved in trying to take down Global: cue flashback to his sister being abducted and dragged into a Global truck (which seems to be like a Mr Whippy truck).
Meanwhile, John Hurt is now on our side, because his tie was green, so [livejournal.com profile] haju was able to snap him out of his fugue, or something. He runs into Gareth and Hurt gives a heartfelt speech about how if they're the same person that Gareth must be able to hear his thoughts and know he's telling the truth. It cuts away with them staring at each other up a ladder with another ladder blocking the way between them, Hurt upside-down.
There's a big battle between Livingstone and another, nameless guy, who had been killing his way to the top of the building, actually wanting to prove himself powerful with his ability to "Vanish" people. He'd flick his hand, there'd be this kind of vibratey, smudgy effect (that I feel like I've seen before somewhere) and they'd just disappear. Needless to say, Livingstone's giving much the same speech as before just as he's Vanished. The nameless Vanisher is sucked into the purple vortex that erupts from Livingstone's absence. The many bookshelves nearby are cleft off in rounded shapes.
There's a long queue. I'm waiting to pick up laundry from a single dryer. Just as a I get to the front of the line, Luke's sister's Person appears and has me at gunpoint. I try to talk her down, but it looks like she's going to shoot me. Just as she's pulling the trigger, Hurt/Gareth - who apparently merged into one person after their previous scene - appear and shoot her. She dissolves into an incense-scented vapour, leaving only her futuristic-looking HUD goggles behind.
The day is saved?
