Life? Don't talk to me about life.
Jan. 8th, 2005 11:49 amLife's grand!
I just returned yesterday from my brief trip to my holiday house in Bateman's Bay. I hadn't been down in two or three years. Since I had a car accident on the way back, in fact.
Though that was only a minor reason for not having been down in such a long time. There was also the fact that I usually have something on, like work or some kind of social engagement.
I drove down all by myself, which was a somewhat odd experience. Four hours in a car by myself is a new way to pass the time, to be sure.
Thankfully, I had the foresight to buy batteries for my portable stereo (as some of you know, my car tape deck has been broken for about seven years now), so I was able to listen to music. CDs didn't work so well, because it's not Anti-Shock enabled. Tapes were just dandy though, which meant I listened to a bunch of stuff I hadn't heard in years.
All very retro, this trip.
On the way down, I "briefly" stopped to pay a surprise visit to Taylor. Two hours, some coffee and some ice cream later, Taylor sent me on my way with a bunch of flowers she picked from her garden for me. How sweet.
I spent my days down south in idleness, relaxing. I left the house once, to go to the lovely bakery/cafe that's nearby. Mmm, vegetable pasties and chicken, cheese and almond quiche. So good.
I got myself out of town at noon, yesterday, to drive back. I'd wanted to be out by ten (as Caleb's 7th Sea game started at two), but didn't manage it, for a variety of reasons. I messaged ahead, saying that I was going to be there around four, so they should start without me.
Exactly four o'clock, I walked in.
Last night, mum, Jenn and I went to the Belvoir Street Theatre to see The Sapphires. It's excellent. If you like soul of the sixties, you'll love this show. This show (to which we already had tickets) was the reason that we returned to Sydney yesterday. Mum and Jenn are returning down the coast soon, as that was their only obligation.
Speaking of obligations, I should be off to Mattley's birthday bash in the Botanic Gardens.
"I want to live
As an honest man
To get all I deserve
And to give all I can
And to love a young woman,
Who I don't understand.
Your highness,
Your ways are very strange."
-The Queen and the Soldier, Suzanne Vega
